How do you get people’s attention and build their interest to
take the time to read your sales letter? Let’s face it. If you
can’t get the attention of prospects and keep their interest
your sales letter will just fall flat on it’s face and thus not
make you much money.

Today, I’m going to show you how to take that limp sales letter
and inject more money making power into it. How? You make your
sales letter more riveting. And you do that by creating a thread
of curiosity and or surprising information that keeps your
prospects on the edge of their seats. There are various ways to
do this, but today I’m going to show you three simple things you
can do right away to make your sales letter more riveting.

1) The 25% Rule: Simply stated, if the first quarter of your
sales letter isn’t absolutely compelling and interesting enough
your sales letter will bomb. So here’s what you do. You craft an
irresistible benefit laden headline and subhead that pull people
into the first sentence of your body copy. You write the copy in
such a way that to complete the thought forces your audience
into the next sentence. Next, your first paragraph will
naturally flow into the second paragraph and then into the third
and so on. The trick again, is to write the copy in such a way
that you’re using stories, case histories, testimonials news or
even descriptions that take several paragraphs to write. Then
you break this huge block of copy up into multiple paragraphs.
As a result, the first 25% of your sales letter should become
riveting.

2) Sentence Enders: At the end of key paragraphs you can add a
special sentence that beckons your prospects to read into the
next paragraph. Here are several examples: “Stay with me.” “Let
me explain.” There’s more.” “What happened next will surprise
you.” “I was blown away by what happened next.” “Now here comes
the good part.”

3) Preview: Have you ever noticed on talk radio or on various
news programs that the announcer or radio host will give you a
preview of what’s to come in their show in order to whet your
appetite to know more? You can do the same thing throughout your
sales letter. Note this technique is closely related to Sentence
Enders. Here are a few examples. “As you read on, you’re about
to discover how XXX can boost your sales by 30% to 400% in just
7 short days.” “I’m going to reveal my magic metabolism secrets
that can peel off 20 lbs within 30 days time. But before I do
… ” “In the next 5 minutes as you read every word of this
letter, you will know the 7 secrets to exploding your online
profits without paying a single dime in advertising costs.” “By
the time you finish reading this eye-opening letter you will
know how to take these three fighting techniques and stop any
attacker foolish enough to get in your face.”

Here’s the bottom line. You must keep your prospects focused on
your sales message. If your sales letter is like most people’s
sale letters - boring - no prospect will take the time to read
it and as a result you won’t get sales. Use these three
techniques and try inventing some of your own to keep your
reader focused and riveted on what you’ve written. Build
suspense in your sales letter. As if you’re constantly dangling
a carrot before them. Do this and you should see your sales
boost.

Although the concept is by no means new; many people are discovering that some of the latest breeds of super dogs are not as great as their breeders would have you believe.

Of the “designer dog club” the ‘Labradoodle’ is probably the most well known. The ‘Labradoodle’ was originally bred for sight impaired individuals who had severe reactions to dog’s fur. This new hybrid aimed to combine the intelligence of the Labrador with a non-shedding poodle. However you may or may not have a puppy that will be non-shedding. Labradoodles have been around for over 20 years and are gaining recognition.

But the term ‘designer mutts’ can be used to describe any number of endless combinations of dogs who have been bred for particular valued qualities. Ever thought about owning a Dorgi? That’s a cross between a Corgi and a Dachshund. How about a Puggle? That’s a cross between a Beagle and a Puggle. There are many variations on breeds with poodles now too. This often results in comical names - the Corgi Poo; or the Shih Poo, the variations are endless.

Hypoallergenic, intelligent and some say healthier than average - these dogs are becoming popular throughout the world.
Yet the American Kennel Club refuses to accept these new breeds. The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes 153 breeds at present; and says that these dogs don’t meet their criteria.

The American Hybrid Club seems to be the answer for the breeders who are rallying to have their new combinations recognized. They argue that in fact all dog breeds exist as a result of some kind of experimentation with mixing breeds.

There are many inherent dangers associated with mixing breeds that would never have bred naturally. The main problem is that you never really know exactly what you will be getting. Most often you can learn a great deal about a dog by the look and temperament of their parents - but with these dogs there is no way to tell if you will end up with a mouse sized dog - or a dog the size of a small donkey.

And it’s not just looks. You might be unpleasantly surprised to find that your new puppy has the temperament of a hostile dictator; or worse is very aggressive. These are serious faults; especially if you intend to introduce your cute new ‘Schnoodle’ (a mixture of a Schnauzer and a poodle) to your kids you never know what might happen.

Is that really a chance you want to take?

Also, these new breeds are by no means considered cheap. You could get an equivalent mix at a shelter for free. But some breeders are charging thousands of dollars for dogs they cannot personally guarantee.
They claim these dogs take the best of both breeds. But there is an equal risk that the dog can end up with the worst from breeds. This seems like a staggering chance to take.

In an attempt to create super dog these breeders are using breeding techniques that seem strangely unnatural. Certain Bulldog combinations always require artificial insemination for successful mating to occur. And you can’t count on Caesar section.
Many of the crossbreeds are bred for profit. Unscrupulous practices which lead to fashion item dogs will create a host of problems for future generations.

If you have your heart set on a designer dog bear in mind you might end up paying more in vet bills. Your puppy will need a vast array of tests.

There are many well-established variations. Purebred dogs have a proven track record. You can say with greater certainty what your Labrador will look like. You will also have a greater idea of what kinds of health problems to expect in your Dachshund.

You can also find adult crossbreeds in a number of places. Adult dogs are often a good choice for families who have children or who need to be sure of the dog’s temperament. And of course giving a loving home to a homeless dog is always a good thing.
If you have your heart set on one of the new crossbreeds; try to learn what you can before deciding on the particular dog or cross.

We have just had the first year’s anniversary of the flash flooding which occurred at Boscastle in Cornwall. The floods saw some of the worst damage wrought by sudden rainfall in the UK for many years.

The flood was caused by the remains of a hurricane which crossed the Atlantic, collecting vast amounts of water crossing, and was then pushed high above an area inland of the village depositing around 1,500m litres (330m gallons) of water within two hours.

At the time insurance companies were estimating the bill for commercial damage to local businesses, would be as high as £15m.

There is perhaps some comfort for insurers in that it could have been worse. Hurricane Charley, which hit Florida around the same time, cost over an estimated £6bn.

In August this year, just a week after Birmingham was battered by a tornado, residents in Bristol witnessed a twister which was up to 1,000 ft (300metres) long sweeping across the skies over the southern suburbs. The twister swept across a 15-mile area, including the suburbs of Whitchurch, and came close to causing widespread property damage.

Both government organisations and insurers have admitted that with global warming increasing, they have seen an increase in the number of serious weather related incidences.

The Governments environment agency has stated that, “climate predictions also indicate that Britain will be windier. One study suggests 30 percent more gales in Wales and southern England in winter, increasing the risk of another storm like that in 1987, which left £2 billion of damage in its wake.”

According to the environment agency, “current estimates are that peak river flows in Britain could be 20 percent higher by 2080. This could have important implications for the flood zones of rivers - in a review of flood defences last year, the Environment Agency found that a tenth of the population in England and Wales now lives on flood plains… The combination of sea level rise with high tides and changes in winds could increase the frequency of extreme water levelsand hence risk of floodingin some east coast locations by ten, or even, twenty-fold.”

The Association of British Insurers support this view stating in a recent report that, “in the UK, climate change could increase the annual costs of flooding by almost 15-fold by the 2080s under the high emissions scenario, leading to potential total losses from river, coastal and urban flooding of more than $40 bn (£22 bn).”

Some insurers had threatened to start cancelling high risk policies unless the Government invested heavily in providing improved flood defences. As part of cost benefit studies, the Government has introduced new flood planning procedures, which mean that highly-populated flood plains like the Vale of York will receive additional help with defences, but less populated areas may end up with nothing. These measures go some way to helping some of the more highly populated areas against flooding, but do nothing for regions with lower population densities, and provide no protection against other costly emergencies such as hurricanes or acts of terrorism.

A recent report by the insurer Axa warned that fewer than 50% of small firms do not have a plan in place to ensure that their business could survive should they be hit by an emergency or disaster. Axa highlighted that many businesses, especially in the South East, are not covered against environmental risks such as fire and flood, and fewer have any protection against the now high profile terrorism threats.

Following a claim, such as for a fire, or flooding, most household insurance policies will cover the cost of alternative accommodation, if the property is uninhabitable; likewise, many companies have business interruption cover, which will pay the cost of alternative accommodation, however this is not always guaranteed and you need to carefully check the policy wording.

Even if you do have insurance, you need to ensure that it is suitable for your needs. Wherever you obtain your insurance, whether it is from a direct insurer such as Norwich Union, brokers like Endsleigh, or through comparison sites such as Moneynet, it is vitally important to check all your coverage details. Many people in Boscastle believed that they were completely protected, only to discover after the floods that they had become victims to under-insurance. If the level of cover obtained is not adequate, then insurers may only pay a proportion of a claim, taking the view that you have been under-paying on premiums. Several residents in Boscastle faced insurance shortfalls of up to 50 per cent.

Thankfully in the Boscastle flooding, despite fears from the emergency services, there was no loss of life; however as the fire fighters union fears following the London bombings, exclusion clauses placed into life insurance policies could mean that many individuals do not currently have any cover for certain unpredictable emergency events which are out of their control.

The upshot appears to be that the current situation is one of caveat emptor, or “let the buyer beware”. A situation that is likely to get worse with global warming causing increased extreme weather conditions, and rising terrorism threats. At the end of the day, for consumers to ensure they have the correct financial protection, they must actually read all the official cover documents, check the details, and examine all the clauses, when they take out any financial product, if they are not to find themselves out of pocket when a claim needs to be made.
