“The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” is a sequel to “Prince Caspian”, taking place a few years after the events in the prior book. It is structured around a sea voyage of young King Caspian to the easternmost reaches of his realm.

Once again, magic pulls Edmund and Lucy into the world of Narnia, though this time their older siblings Peter and Susan are absent (having become too old for Narnia, it seems). Instead, they are joined by their cousin Eustace, a thoroughly disagreeable character, who will undergo a major change during this book.

The journey of the ship “Dawn Treader” to a group of islands in the East advances the plot. On each island, the companions encounter new dangers and temptations, be it slave traders, a greedy dragon or a well containing secret and evil magic. As they progress, they also find traces of the seven Narnian lords who traveled to the islands in the time of Miraz, who had usurped the throne during Caspian’s youth.

Another quest is that of Reepicheep, the corageous mouse, who follows a prophecy made at his birth that he would reach the true East and find Aslan’s country. And indeed, he will eventually find the edge of the world… and Aslan, of course.

While “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” contains memorable scenes, such as the attack of a giant sea serpent on the ship, or the description of the eerie Island of Dreams, it feels rather slight compared to the earlier novels. It mainly serves as a transitional book between the early and the late titles in the Chronicles of Narnia.

Some Enchanted Autumn by Linda Andrews is an excellent
gift idea for the Halloween season. Vampires, skeletons,
spiders, witches… they are all here - but this is definitely
not a children’s book.

One town, founded by the same wagon train during the
pioneering days of the North American continent, holds a
secret that could destroy them all.
Divided by a bitter and ancient rift, it becomes two rival
towns - Pumpkin and Holly. These folks take their holidays
seriously, but none more so than Pumpkin’s residents do.

Lonnie, who is running both from herself and from facing
her pompous and boring boyfriend, returns to Pumpkin - her
hometown. There she meets Nicholas who is both more
wonderful than her wildest dreams and as frightening as
her childhood nightmares. Together they are assigned the
difficult task of discovering the “Prankster’s” identity and the
reason’s why that person is set on keeping the ancient rift
between the towns alive.

Nicholas and Lonnie harbor a steamy and slightly erotic
passion for one another, which they do their best to keep in
check. Their family ancestors, after all, were the main
players in the rift that continues to tear the towns apart.

I would classify Some Enchanted Autumn as a
fantasy-fiction, paranormal-romance novel with comedic
elements. Although it begins with a bit of confusion, the
story rises in pace until I felt unwilling to put the book aside.
This 238-page book is not the author’s first endeavor. In
fact, Linda has written two other books, The Christmas
Village and Ghost of a Chance.

My acquaintance Bob calls me on the phone to inform me that he’s discovered some online gambling websites that I just have to look into. I have never really been heavy into gambling, but I figured O.K., I have to give it a try out. Therefore I tested out some poker and black jack, but truthfully, they simply are not my thing. And Then I find these on-line elottery internet sites and I realize that all over the internet I can take part in lots of other lotteries around the planet. Straight Off to me this appears a good deal more pleasure, hence I reckon I will give it a test. First I tried out my luck at euro millions, you know a European lottery. I picked my lotto numbers and waited and imagined that I may win it big. I didn’t on that occasion but when the euro lotto results came out; I was highly surprised to see that I had really come very close to the winning lotto numbers. I tested out a few other lotteries, but I found that I did come so near the first time on the euromillions, that I simply had to give it another go. To date, I have not won millions of pounds, but, I have scooped some money, so I continue to play the euro lottery and picking lottery winning numbers, going for the big break. I am one of those individuals who like to think in the likelihood of winning it big, because it is tough to imagine getting that kind of money any other way.

As for my acquaintance, he still stays on with his love of on-line gambling and finds himself at the online gambling casino for at least 60 minutes a day. He likewise has won some money, but it is up and down and the difference is, when you lose at gambling you normally lose a great deal but when you lose at the lottery, it doesn’t cost you very much. I think that the lotto is the only way for me to go and the notion of hitting the jackpot and on top of that, it is only costing me simply a few bucks “makes all the difference”

Title: Shadow of an Indian Star

The Review
When sixteen-year-old Smith Paul strode away from his North Carolina home in the darkness of a September night, 1824 he had little awareness how his precipitous behavior would shape not only his immediate life but that of generations to come. The lonely young man who found life living in a home with a recently widowed, recently married father, unkind step-mother and lonely sadness for his mother lost to lingering death unbearable; soon learned that life on his own was also fraught with sorrow. Various of the people Smith first met were not only cruel and untrustworthy; they often were also common thieves and at times thoughtless killers. Smith was fortunate to meet Hezekiah Burkitt, a knowledgeable black man, who taught him secrets of the fur trapper trade. The deaths of Burkitt and his donkey, Scrap Iron, at the hands of conniving traders sent Smith into a desperate run for his own life.

A chance meeting with an Indian caught in the jaws of a huge bear was the catalyst to propel Smith Paul into a life he had not sought, came to love, and shaped not only his fate but that of those around him. Book one of the three part narrative continues Smith Paul forward from that chance meeting with Ja-Paw-Nee to the Chickasaw removal from their ancestral lands and into Indian Territory. Smith, called Ikhimilo following his courageous face on attack upon the bear bent upon savaging Ja-Paw-Nee, lives with the Chickasaw in Mississippi until 1838 when the people of Yaneka Village begin their trek along the Trail of Tears. It is while on the journey that Smith runs into an old nemesis, this time however, Smith Paul is no longer a sixteen-year-old stripling and the meeting has a far different outcome. Book one continues the narrative into Indian Territory, death of Reverend McClure, the white man who came to preach gospel to the Chickasaw and stayed to become wainwright for the area, marriage of Smith to the woman he adores, and his young family beginning life in Indian Territory.

Book Two opens in 1858 as the Smith Paul family becomes well known, prosperous and influential in the valley still called Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Smith’s oldest son Sam is disillusioned when he returns from a campaign as a scout for G. A Custer. Sam buries his brother and begins a rise to power, political and personal over the years. Sam skirts along the edge of legal and brutality, marries more than once, fathers children within marriage and without and proves not much of a husband or father a good bit of the time. He is a likeable character none the less. Sam’s ability to see beyond today and into the ruthlessness of the federal government and greed of those in power drives him politically forward despite all odds.

Book Three begins in Santa Barbara, California 1890. Smith is now eighty-two, has remarried following the death of his beloved wife and has turned over his business to his heirs. He leaves the territory to begin a new life in California with a new wife. When his grandson Joe appears in California following a row with his father Smith decides it is time to go home. He persuades Joe to accompany him, but does not tell anyone that they are coming. If the elder Paul had done so. history might have read differently for the family. The rift between Sam and Joe Paul cannot be mended even as the Paul story continues with more upsets, marriages, births, deaths and life.

The writers Paul have crafted an entertaining, compelling read based both on research and family lore. The story of Smith Paul is easily read, written well and most enjoyable. The writers state ‘This is a work of fiction. The names of the main characters, places and events are not figments of the authors’ imaginations. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, business establishments, events, or locales is purely intentional. This is the story Bill Paul’s grandfather told him.’

As a lifelong reader of historical fact, social mores and just plain good books I found Shadow of an Indian Stardifficult reading at times. Reading of the slaughter of Scrap Iron and Burkitt saddened me enormously. Whether this incident was imagination or based in fact, the reality is, similar instances did take place in those days and that is what makes the sketch compelling. I enjoyed the narrative as a whole, found inclusion of the various news clips taken from newspapers added to the tale and would like to have seen a picture or two of the main characters added to the work.

Shadow of an Indian Starwill make an excellent addition to the home pleasure library, high school and college library, home school, high school reading list and for those who just like a well crafted book filled with lusty, realistic characters, lots of action and straight forward language. Brutal death, realistically portrayed, human emotion and depravity are all portrayed with a delicate hand.

As a plus the writers manage to portray a vigorous, hearty group of people in robust language without resorting to graphic sex or profanity. I do not keep many of the books sent for review, this is one I will be keeping.

Enjoyed the read, happy to recommend.

As you open each page of this book and look at the pictures and the prose beneath, you get a great sense of who the author is and what he is trying to say. The gorgeous pictures are of nature; trees, birds, water, sunsets, and sunrises, and his words are telling us to stop the senseless killing and corrupting of our world that cradles and nurtures us. In The Sweet Smell of Wonderful, page 37, the picture is a mountain pond with a snow-capped mountain in the distance, and the prose tells us:

Things of this Earth are what they are
All that is owned is within you
Nothing is possessed that you hold onto to
All are utility if the material.

Likewise, his prose also introduces us to the nature of ourselves, and our emotions like hate, envy, and greed:

Resentment is never still
It tries to get even
Temptation has no boundaries
Anyone can fall prey
Trouble knows no rank
It rankles everyone
It’s the world we live in
No one is living.

The last page of this book is the Letter to Maya Angelou, which is a beautiful poem dedicated to Maya Angelou, the great poet, writer, who changed the lives of so many underprivileged women in Africa.

…I know why the caged bird sings it sings to love
Only in love is there life
To Maya Angelou: When you see the face of Truth you
Fall in love! Thank you, Thank you! Many thanks
Love is lovely handle
Love is home
Love is always good.

My Book of Life, is the author’s life experiences and the wisdom that he has gleaned in his years of living, through experience, study, and mistakes, he writes the lessons that he has learned. The prose and the pictures combined tell us what the author wants us to know; that we are all one.

Oluwadahunsi is just completing his next book of seven volumes of the My Book of Life series entitled: My Book of Life: Little pieces of Heaven, this book is comprised of one and two sentence meditations. It is the second of the seven volumes in his My Book of Life series.

The title, Little Pieces of Heaven, describes the book perfectly as each meditation is exactly that, a little piece of heaven.

The author’s inspirations for these meditations have come from the New Testament Bible. His meditations bestow us with how we can see Truth, God, and Light in our fellow person while journeying on our physical path to enlightenment.

Differing slightly from Letters to Maya Angelou, this book does not have the full color photo on each page, but the richness of the content is enough to stimulate your thoughts and evoke a sense of wonderment at the mystery of the Universe/God.

Often at times the meditations are quite abstract and demand just a bit more time on them, but others are easily recognizable making this book the perfect mixture of daily meditations.

Graduation Medal

On accomplishing an academic course successfully, one can be awarded a graduation medal in recognition of their achievements. A medal refers to a pendant that is hanged on a ribbon as a symbol of prestige, pride and honor earned by the person who wears it. For a graduation medal the graduate wears it as an accessory to the graduation regalia. The medal will serve as a great collectable for such persons and a constant reminder for their achievements. In addition, the medals make great graduation gifts to the graduates since they are durable. The medals are made from metals such as zinc alloys, copper, bronze brass, and gold among others.

The medals can be made in such a way that they bear the name or logo of the academic institutions that give them. This can be done by use of lasers to engrave. Medals made from other metals other than gold can be gold coated to give them a shiny gold finish. One can purchase a graduation medal from their local community shops as well as online. They should ensure that they get the right sizes as well as give a clear description of the designs they would like to have on the medal. The prices offered by the service providers can be as low as $3.40 US dollars. They are therefore quite affordable.

The banking giant, HSBC, plans to increase funds of three billion Euros by selling off three of their biggest commercial buildings. The three office interiors include their London headquarters in Canary Wharf, a building in the Champs Elysées and some offices in New York. HSBC intends to trade and lease back the properties concerned for a minimum of ten years.

The conclusion came a few days after a rights issue was approved worth an enormous £12.5 billion. The sale process is to be overseen by the real estate organization, CB Richard Ellis with some help for Jones Lang LaSalle.

The premises, the HSBC Tower is a 100,000 square meter premises and was sold by the bank in the middle of 2007 during the heights of the real estate boom in a £1.1 billion sale and leaseback deal. Unfortunately, for Metrovacesa, the deal proved rather too determined and HSBC ended up buying it back for £800 million.

In a relatively good position to take advantage of the new prospects, HSBC plans to sell some of its assets that have lost their values during the economic slump.

HSBC has been surviving the global economic crisis with considerable success and so far avoided the need for government aid. With the solution to the rights issue, the banking group is now one of the strongest in the industry and is continuing to prepare for any possible acquisitions in the future.

The Canary Wharf headquarters were purchased only a few months after the bank purchased the premises from Metrovacesa, a failing Spanish property firm that was badly effected by the economic crisis. The profit made by the bank as a result of this sale was around £300 million.

At the fall of last year, HSBC’s market price was almost thirteen billion pounds lower than the value held on the books of the bank. Partly because of this, the ratings agency, Moody, gave a negative outlook for the bank, doubting its methods of dealing with the rights issue.

Despite the prevailing financial position of HSBC, there are still concerns regarding its Household division in which keeping up the $100 billion portfolio of loans to the US housing market will not be without its considerable challenges. Investors in the bank are also still anxious regarding the bank’s traded debt securities.

A large quantity of folk become really jumbled-up when the scenario gets right to the heart of exchange rate insider terms, on the other hand the jargon truly is comparatively uncomplicated. Thus regardless of whether you’re a sole trader or a large company seeking to exchange overseas money; what follows are a number of straightforward and elementary definitions which can with a little bit of luck extinguish all of the mystique & make the often misunderstood process of earning monetary income by trading foreign currency a little bit more straightforward.

Beginning with the most painless of definitions an exchange rate is the price at one specific nationalities money will be swapped to another’s. So that, for example the rate would be the amount of Egypt Pounds you will purchase in exchange for every Japan Yen.

Fixed exchange rates are additionally known as ‘pegged exchange rates’; fixed exchange rated are put to use to stabilize the value of a countries currency; particularly when that currency is fluctuating in value heavily; to assist trade & investment.

Floating exchange rate - this is when a national currencies current value is dictated by natural market powers. This is a much more hazardous way to conduct business but also this is the situation wherein you might have the opportunity to make a profit,

You might furthermore read talk of animals in currency; a bull is an individual who believes market values will go upwards and a bear is an individual that predicts that market values will go down. A bull market is a marketplace where values are at present moving upwards conversely a bear market is the exact opposite - a market where prices are moving down. Here is a site you can begin your research if you’re looking to buy foreign currency.

A currency broker is a person that acts as a middle man in-between you and the market place - currency brokers are actually commonly in the position to get you the best price during times when you are looking to purchase or conceivably sell.

The dollar rate is the exchage rate that a single unit of any currency has when put against a single measure of the US Dollar; this is a very useful indicator for a currencies current value.

This is really by no means an exhaustive selection of terms - it is merely a starting point; but with a fraction more groundwork you should be noticeably on your way to becoming a financial expert in no time at all.
